WHAT IS PROBUS

PROBUS is an association of retired people who come together in non-political, non-sectarian, non-profit, autonomous clubs which provide regular opportunities for members to meet others in similar circumstances, with similar levels of interest, make new friends, and maintain and expand their interests. “Probus” is derived from “Pro”fessional and “bus”iness and was started as a project of Rotary in Surrey, England in 1965. In 1974, Probus expanded into New Zealand and by 1976 the idea had spread to Australia. Read more about what Membership of the Probus organisation offers on the Probus South Pacific (PSPL) website www.probussouthpacific.org.

Manly Probus History

The Manly Probus Club Inc., the first Probus Club on the Northern Beaches between the Spit and Palm Beach,  was founded on 20 October 1980 and inaugurated on 15 April 1982 as a men’s club under the sponsorship of Manly Rotary Club. In March 2010, members voted overwhelmingly to change to a mixed gender club. Prior to this, ladies had been warmly involved in all activities except club management and voting. Based at Manly in Sydney, many social activities tend to centre around the harbour, ferry travel and the beautiful northern beaches.
